In the picturesque island of Nassau, Bahamas, a bouncing baby girl was born to the parentage of Edgar Carey and Jannette L. Martin. It was quite evident, from an early age, that she would be something special.
Tamara’s grandmother, Inez Elizabeth Martin played an intricate role in her understanding and embracing the call on her life. It all started from the age of four when her grandmother would take her in the early morning to prayer. It was from this tender age that Tamara spent countless hours with her grandmother in what was called the “wilderness”. Often, it was very interesting to see her grandmother pray and worship for hours. Tamara would wonder, “Why is Grammy crying?”
As she got older this became a part of Tamara’s regular routine; she looked forward to accompanying her grandmother to prayer. At the age of six, Tamara’s grandmother began to encourage her to join her in prayer. Uncertain about what was happening, Tamara was even more excited to be apart. At such a tender age, this all seemed like a foreign world however, Tamara had no idea this would be the pre-requisite of all that would follow.
Tamara’s Grandmother began teaching her about faith, all of this was difficult for her to understand however, she remembers her grandmother saying clearly “Baby Tammy you won’t understand all of those scriptures and stuff, but just remember, believe in God, believe in His word, and believe in every moment you spend with Him”. At the age of seven, Tamara returned to Nassau, the Capital of The Bahamas, to live with her mom. It was an exciting time for her, but there was something that yearned for those mornings of prayer. As she grew older, the yearning never went away.
At nine years old Tamara began to lock herself in a room at her mom’s house. She would stay there for hours doing what her grandmother did. Those times made her feel close to her grandmother and God as the same time. When Tamara still nine her grandmother came to visit; she was excited to spend time with her. She began to share with her grandmother her prayer times and dreams she had been having.
It was at this time her grandmother began to teach her about trusting God, and explained that she could tell Him anything. Tamara was so excited about this that she began writing God letters every day. Her letters included her problems and failures or she would write just to keep God up-to-date with what was happening in her life. It was during this visit that her grandmother held a prayer meeting with the family at seven in the morning. As Tamara walked into the living room her grandmother said, “The Lord showed me a badge on your chest and out of this badge was a great light shining all around you. It covered your face totally.” She was still not sure what this all meant, but Tamara knew it meant something good. Soon after her grandmother returned home.
As time progressed, Tamara struggled in school and was rebellious to her mom. By thirteen years old, she exhibited signs of an at-risk teen. Her school guidance counselor sent her to a program for at-risk teens that provided mentoring and counseling. Tamara was not doing well in the program.

During this time Tamara’s grandmother visited again. Her grandmother was really disappointed to see Tamara’s change since her last visit. One night her grandmother told her she needed her to accompany her somewhere. Tamara was hesitant but she agreed. It was a tent crusade hosted by a local church. When Tamara and her Grandmother arrived at the gate a Minister of the Gospel, Michael Miller, greeted them. Her grandmother said “Sir, The Lord sent me here, I am getting ready to leave and I need to make sure she will be alright”. The Minister prayed with her in that moment. To date, she cannot remember all that happened, however she remembers the Minister praying for her, and the Pastor on the platform throwing something, believed to be water and that’s where she lost memory; Tamara was slain in the spirit. It was that moment, at age thirteen, Tamara connected with the Born Again Deliverance Ministries, Nassau Bahamas, under the leadership of Apostle Kelson Miller. The Minister and his wife remained very close, guiding Tamara, disciplining and encouraging her.
Later that year Tamara’s grandmother visited one more time and passed away a few months later. Apostle Miller played an intricate role in Tamara walking in her call and purpose. At the age of 14, Apostle Miller spoke to Tamara and said “I must prepare you for where you are going.” At the time Tamara wondered where did she have to go, but it was the beginning of a new journey. It was in this place, through the teachings, training, tough love and spiritual parenting of Apostle Miller and his late wife that Tamara began to develop and evolve for her assignment.
At the age of 16 Tamara became one of the Counselors at the program for at-risk teens that she was sent to. There, she thrived and was an example to her peers. In her local high school she became a part of a Christian club known as Student Christian Movement, moving up the ranks to eventually becoming President. She hosted prayer meetings, along with other outreach activities, and became a confidante to her peers and facilitators alike.
In the year 2005 Tamara met and married her soul mate, Trevor Simmons and he became a driving force in her life. During this year she began the Oracles of Worship Mentoring Program, where at-risk girls were trained in dance, drama and public speaking. To date, some of the enrollees of this program are working with The Simmons’ in ministry.
It was during this time that the Lord spoke to The Simmons’ to put forth a move that will cultivate gifts and create an atmosphere conducive for worship thus change. This move was hosted at their local church for three years. In 2009, this move was taken to Freeport, Grand Bahama, an island in the Bahamas also know as The Nation’s Second City. Hundreds gathered to be refreshed and delivered. What was a mere annual event had evolved into a trans-local ministry. Prophetess Tamara Simmons began to travel near and far by invitation to preach the Word of God.
She is an eagle-eye prophet that ushers in the Presence of the Lord. Prophetess Simmons has been anointed to develop those who are unsure of their purpose or simply lack the confidence or knowledge to walk in their call. She is a mother to many and has been set aside to affect change in this generation and by extension the earth. She is called to the kingdom for such a time as this. She has integrity and loves God with her whole heart. She is humble and serves in whatever capacity she can.
In 2012 she embraced a new journey as she and her husband became the Pastors of the Broken in Worship Ministries International which is a multi-cultural, out-of-the-box Ministry, where many are coming to know purpose and receiving the wisdom to walk in the full potential of it. Prophetess Simmons is a psalmist, author, recipient of many awards, and one that has graced many platforms. Above all, she is a child of God and a submitted wife, one passionate about seeing those assigned to her life become all that they could be. She is also passionate about seeing the Body of Christ embrace the more-than-enough of God. She holds dear the teaching of her beloved grandmother and believes that no matter what happens in her life she must ‘believe in God, believe in His Word, and believe in every moment she spends with Him”.
